Here are my Steps:

Download and Install Docker for Mac from the Docker Store

Install it

Double-click Docker.dmg to start the install process.

Now that I have downloaded and installed Docker successfully, I will download an existing Database 12c Image public available.

Docker Image to Download:

Go to hub.docker.com and type: Oracle 12c

Click in the image absolutapps/oracle-ee-12c

Copy the Docker Pull Command:

docker pull absolutapps/oracle-12c-ee

Running image on Docker:

Install Oracle Database on Docker:

Start oracle Database and note the hostname:

And that’s it. I now have an working version of Oracle database 12c R1 running on my MAC with Docker.

Next test is to create a GoldenGate Microservices image to test some integrations. Stay tuned.

I want to have docker CLI to connect to remote daemon but do I need to install the whole engine including daemon on the local machine?

If you want to install Docker in Linux, then in the newest 1.12.0 release, Docker daemon and Docker client are in separate binary files.

First, download and unzip/untar the release for your system. Here are x86_64 binaries for mac, linux, windows.

After expanding the archive, you can find the docker CLI executable at ./docker/docker - move that file into your path, and you're done.

The difference from the other answer is that there is no intermediate tar file. I use this in a Dockerfile RUN layer.
